1. (V13) Hold fast the pattern of sound words
2 Timothy 3:14 “But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them,”
a) Hold fast
What does it mean?: To continue to trust in who He is, obey His word, and believe His promises to us, especially in difficult times.
A metaphor seen in many verses of the Bible is the term hold fast or holding fast, meaning “be diligent,” “cling to,” or “take a firm grasp of.” It is based on the idea of gripping tightly to an object
When? All the time, but especially in times of suffering
When we’re tempted to do the opposite of what is right
Application: Many people walk away from the faith because they have never made their own, they didn’t hold fast to it
b) Pattern
Consistent or a history of doing right
As a new Christian, consistency in my walk with the Lord was difficult
2. Application: Begin to make habits. Find time each day to spend time in the Word and in prayer. This will safe guard you from falling away.
c) Sound words
Not my truth or their truth or an opinion, but rather what does the Word of God say?
In faith and love which are in Christ
Titus 1:9 “holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.”
Application: These clips pop up on my YouTube feed where they claim Christianity but their lifestyles completely oppose it.
They are not holding onto sound teaching
2. (V14) That good thing which was commited to you, keep by the Holy Spirit

b) Kept by the Holy Spirit
Nobody can snatch you away
Ephesians 1:13 “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,”
Application: When you feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit, head the warning
3. (V15) Many have turned away from Paul, but they have really turned away from Christ
3. (V15) Many have turned away from Paul, but they have really turned away from Christ
